What the official SGPGIMS advertisement says
SGPGIMS released its detailed recruitment advertisement on 12 June 2025. For the Nursing Officer post (Advt. No. I/08/1/Rectt/2025-26), the key official points are:
| Item | Official detail |
|---|---|
| Post | Nursing Officer, Group B, Pay Level 7 |
| Vacancies | 1,200 (UR 480, OBC 324, SC 253, EWS 119, ST 24) |
| Stage I | Common Recruitment Test (CRT), objective in nature, designed to assess aptitude and domain specific knowledge |
| Qualifying marks in the CRT | 50% for UR, EWS and OBC; 45% for SC and ST |
| Medium | English |
| Normalisation | Applied if the test is held in multiple shifts, using shift-wise average and standard deviation |
| Detailed scheme and syllabus | To be published separately on the institute website |
The advertisement also mentions a Stage II skill or technical test “wherever required” for certain posts; such a test is qualifying in nature. For the Nursing Officer post, follow the stage-wise notices issued by SGPGIMS during the cycle.
SGPGI Nursing Officer exam pattern and syllabus (Stage I, 2026)
The Stage I computer based test was held from 19 June 2026, with day-wise raw scores later published on the SGPGIMS website. Coverage of the paper by exam education portals describes the pattern below. Confirm the final scheme on sgpgims.org.in, since the advertisement itself left the detailed scheme to a later notice.
| Feature | Reported pattern |
|---|---|
| Mode | Computer based test |
| Questions and marks | 100 MCQs, 1 mark each, 100 marks |
| Duration | 120 minutes |
| Sections | 4 sections of 25 questions, 30 minutes each, no switching back to a completed section |
| Negative marking | One-third mark (0.33) per wrong answer; no deduction for unattempted questions |
| Content split | About 60 marks nursing and 40 marks non-nursing (10 each of English, general knowledge, reasoning and mathematical aptitude) |
Because each section is reported to be timed separately, sectional time management matters as much as knowledge. Practise this in our KGMU and SGPGI test series.
How normalisation affects your score
Since Stage I ran over several days and shifts, SGPGIMS normalises raw scores so that candidates who got a tougher shift are not at a disadvantage. As described in the advertisement, each raw score is adjusted using the average and standard deviation of that shift, with the shift having the highest average as the reference. This is why the result shows both a raw score and a normalised score. You cannot control your shift, so focus on accuracy: a high raw score in any shift stays competitive after normalisation.
Stage II
As per reports published in October 2026, Stage II for the Nursing Officer post was scheduled for 1 November 2026 in offline (pen and paper) mode at centres in Lucknow district, with a separate intimation slip and admit card. Only candidates who cleared Stage I were eligible, and no fresh application or fee was required. The question count and duration of Stage II were not confirmed in the sources we could verify, so check the admit card instructions and the notice on the official website.

How SGPGI and related papers have trended (2021 to 2025)
Exact subject-wise counts are not officially published, but a few qualitative trends are consistent across SGPGI, KGMU and other Uttar Pradesh nursing officer papers of recent years:
- Clinical subjects lead. Medical surgical nursing and fundamentals form the largest share of the nursing section.
- Application-based questions are increasing. More questions ask for the priority nursing action or the best response in a situation, rather than a single definition.
- Non-nursing marks separate ranks. Most candidates score similarly in nursing; English, reasoning and maths often decide final merit.
- Time pressure is real. Sectional timing means slow solvers lose marks even when they know the content.
- Standard facts repeat. Normal values, immunisation, milestones, drug classes and national programmes appear regularly.
How to use previous year papers
- Solve available SGPGI and KGMU Nursing Officer papers in timed, section-wise mode.
- Tag each question by subject and note accuracy per section.
- Revisit the topic behind each wrong answer from your notes.
- Add recent NORCET papers for extra clinical question practice; see our NORCET exam pattern guide.
